  • Lace tore a bit of the deer with her teeth, muttering a thank you to Riku through the venison in her mouth. Returning to Zara, she held out her hand and resparked the fire. "That last one was really good. It doesn't matter that the fire went out, that must have taken a lot of energy and concentration."

  • Kinata looked at Zara. "Here... let me help." She rubbed her hands together and then slid them, each of her fingers in line with the other hands palm/wrist. She pulls one hand up and the other down, closing her eyes, forming a fire-ball, a large one. Her hands dropped to her sides while the ball stayed still in the air. She flicked her head down for a second, the fire ball fell to the ground. "There you go. don't burn yourself..." She warned, rubbing her palms, which were black with a terrible burn. She cracked her nuckles and rubs her hands together again, this time a faint green glow comming from her palms. When she stops rubbing her hands, the burn is gone. She sighed in relief. "I hate pain." She looked back at Zara. "If I could make a request... before you can control fire, you have to know how to put it out. There will not always be water around, so you have to learn to use your... er... energy... to put out the flames. Try it. It was how I learned."

A confused look came into her face. Her mouth was drawn, tight. "Doesn't energy... start it?" she asked, squinting into the fire. "Isn't that how it works? So it'd make sense to sort of draw the energy out of the fire to put it out?" She poked Lace's flame. It didn't burn; probably one of those vampire things.

  • Lace nodded. "To put it out, just suck the energy from it. You might get a little hyper from it for a moment, but it passes quickly." She giggled. "The first time for me finding that out was... very interesting."

"Ah, I see." She narrowed her eyes, glaring into the fire. Ironically enough, the flames seemed to wither beneath her awful stare, quavering as if frightened. She blew into it, and the flames fanned out in the opposite direction, reaching out with orange-tipped fingers.

And then there came the brilliant white-hot flash and a sound so loud it reminded her of rolling thunder and forked lightning. She had to close her eyes and shield them with her hands, to keep them from melting into their sockets.

    "Christ! What the Hell?"

And when she reopened her eyes and let her hands drop back to her sides, she saw that there was no fire, only another pile of black dust and ash. She noted that this time there was no smoke.

  • She raised her eyebrows. "Just an overload, I think."

    ((Kay. Bye! :D))

"I'll never get it," Zara grumbled, shooting daggers into the two smoldering piles. She kicked out at one with her foot, scattering the broken embers into Riku's open face. Her hand went automatically to her mouth. "Oh, my bad. Sorry," she said.

  • Riku was surprised momentarily by the hot embers in his face, but he recovered quickly. he made a sound in the back of his throat, not a laugh, but not an angry sound either. He shook his head, evicting the ash that had settled in his hair. He might have been mad, but he was feeling less agitated because his stomach was full, and, well, the look on Zara's face was kind of funny. "Oh," he said, "It's okay." He kind of wished he had some crazy magical power to show off, but he guessed that he would have to live with just being a heart-sick two hundred year old vampire. With a British accent. Can't omit that!

  • Lace watched the episode with the embers and ash and laughed. The two other vampire's (and half vampire) reactions were just perfect.

She looked at Lace, her hands held out in a gesture of helplessness. She brought her shoulders together in a delicate shrug. "What can I do? I just suppose I'm not cut out for playing with fire." She lowered her eyes demurely to the floor. "But maybe... just one more time, please? Don't give up on me."

  • Lace smiled. "Of course. Just because you think you aren't made for it doesn't necessarily mean you can't do it. Here." She crouched again, holding her palm to a small pile of leaves and twigs. A few sparks flared, enough to make a little fire that slowly began growing.

  • Kinata laughed. "No no... that was good." She put one of her hands behind her head and laughed again, this time with embarassment. "The first time I tried it... the fire exploded..." She looked at the sky, her eyes automatically hardening. "Hey listen... It was nice meeting you guys, but I have to go..." She said vaguely, starting to back away. She turned and started to run, pausing only a few meters away, turning her head back to Zara. "Hey listen. No matter what happens, DO NOT LET THE FIRE OUT OF CONTROL. Unlike the other elements, Fire is the only one that breaths. Remember that." Kinata ran off again, her pitch-black hair trailing behind her. She disappeared through the trees. Kinata sighed. 'Its no fair... having to constantly run like this...' She looked straight ahead, her dark purple eyes narrowed with hate and sorrow. 'But I have to. Every one I get close to dies in the end... Immortal or not. HE always kills them...' She ran faster, the thought of that man, disgusted that she even thought of him.

"Right," Zara said, and turned back to the fire. She felt the wind of Kinata's departure, heard it whistle past her ears a high keening note that whittled away as the distance between them grew. Lace's fire wavered.

The reason she did not bother with a good-bye--the exchange of faint smiles and empty eyes--it was because she had long grown used to the mysterious ways of the average Dracula, and had realized from an early age that it was best to leave a vampire to his own devices. It was always the same story with their race: persecution, abuse, death intertwined with love and passion, sorrow that coursed through dry and withered veins like venom. Zara was simply fed up with it all. Was there no happy ending if there was no ending?

"Hey, I just noticed that I didn't ask for your name. Mine is Zara. And, your fire is a different color than that other girl's." She gestured to the faint outline of the woods that stretched across the horizon. "Yours is a fiery silver color. Like liquid moonlight." She thrust two fingers into its core. Again, there was no pain. "And hers is the normal blue or red."

  • As Riku watched the girl depart, he decided it was time for a new outlook on things. He swung up into a maple tree, up and up until he was a couple feet of the ground. He straddled the branch, swinging his legs back and forth like a human child would. he hummed a little song to himself, looking off to where he could still faintly see Kinata's running form, hair fanned out behind her. He leaned against the sturdy trunk of the tree and looked down at the two girls on the ground.

  • Lace felt Katerina behind her and put her arm around her like a daughter before she began to walk away. She dared a glance up to the trees, where she had suspected Riku had disappeared to.

  • Hunter followed his sister.Katerina kept walking and looked back then began to run away

There came that persistent pop, and then something more along the lines of a rolling roar of thunder.

This time it was like a crack of brilliant electric blue, a miniature lightning storm contained between her fingertips, throwing white sparks and fluttering in the breeze as bright and supple as a war flag. Zara watched in amazement as it bloomed like a rose in her palm, and set forth its black velvet petals into the cool night air, as if searching, searching for some form of sustenance. With her other hand, Zara groped about in the darkness for a twist of bramble, and quickly placed it into the bright darting flames. The petals gently closed around the offering, and its rough brown thorns instantly dropped off and shriveled like dying seeds, while its hewn body was absorbed into the fire's burning core, where it crumbled into grey dust.

"Oh. My. God. Look!" She thrust her burning hand into her mentor's beautiful face, and studied the way the dancing flames cast dark shadows across her porcelain skin. "I think I did it!"
