"Josie, Leader of the Beasts of Burden"

ooc: Text here

ic: I clamp my jaws tightly around the dogs' throat, its jugular and other flakes of rotting skin falling off as I quickly ripped it out with a jerk of my head. Luckily it's only one of those accursed Zombies, but that won't mean there'll be more. I watch it fall limply, dead once again, and I spit out the sour blood that's turned a murky green in my mouth.
"C'mon, before more show."
Can you believe it's our first night in Pennsylvania and we've already run into three packs of Zombies, me almost loosing my tail, while Robyn simply had a nick in his hind leg that he was quickly able to heal? Yeah, that's what happens when you become like one of us, some say survivors, I simply say seekers.

• The Saluki fae sighed, as she watched the last of the zombies fall limp. Shaking her head, the dog looked over at the pack leaader, Josey. “That's the last of em', right?”, she barked, cocking her head to the side. If there's anything you should know, it's to always be certain before you let your guard down, though you shouldn't let your guard down, anyways. Alendra usually slept with one eye open, if ya know whatt I mean. Heaving a sigh, the Retriever mix stretched out her long hind legs, and gazed around their surroundings.

My large white form gracefully ran circles around the zombie dogs, causing a few to spin so fast that they fell apart. I skidded to a halt, my paws scraping against the concrete roughly, I could see the blood spill out from my raw paw-pads. Feeling cold breath on my rump, my ears flicked as they detected sound. Releasing an exhausted sigh, I whipped around and used my muscular weight to crush the zombie dog, cringing as the green liquid oozed out and splattered everywhere. "I'm really hoping this is almost it..." My rather deep voice rumbled in my throat as I turned to Josie. "Where are we headed anyway?" I asked, lifting my lip as I watched some greenish-blackish sticky stuff connect my paw to the ground. Quickly cutting it with my claw, I backed away from the remains, and at last found a clear spot as I waited patiently for an answer.

This is too easy! I thought, snickering to myself as I hind-kicked a zombie in the jaw, the dog had obviously been a spaniel of some sort. I was having more fun than I knew I was supposed to.. but I couldn't help myself. This was awesome! I let out a victory bark as I stood upon the remains of the skeletal dogs, not minding the nasty blood of them. "Hey guys! Look how awesome I am!" I barked, looking at the others with pride radiating off of me in waves, my large ears angling about like radar dishes. Then my hunger caught up to me, and I licked my chops. For such a young pup, I really had a big appetite. But didn't everyone? Fighting zombies all day can really tire a pup out, 'specialy a six month old one. I yawned as I jumped off, after my victory dance of course, and trotted over to Josie and everyone, my soft pink tongue lolling out as I panted, peering up at them with my beetle-like eyes, little black beads shining up at them through the darkness.

- Hey protector, I see you role-play 1st person too! x3 I started that ever since I joined this other rp, it's awesome ^u^ I prefer 1st person, but some rps it's too late to switch xD

ooc: Haha, yeah! I got an amen ovah here! XD

ic: I nod to the Protector to show my answer. "Robyn should be coming back soon from scouting the area," I reply, then nod again to answer Sierra's question. "Washington, D.C. Hopefully that's where we should be seeing some more Humans, if not other dogs there. Thankfully the Zombie Dogs don't know of communication."
Though I'm not so sure about that. Yes, they're silent besides the usual moan or groan, but I have seen a few trotting toward each other and give a dip of their head, a quick bark from their mouths, and even a scour of their glazed-over eyes. If it wasn't for Robyn and his many assortment of knowledge about the supernatural, I, along with the rest of the pack, would surely be dead by now.
I almost jump out of my fur when I see a blur of black leap over a turned-over red Sequoia, but my heart slowly stops pounding when I recognize it as my brother. "Seen anything?"
"I was dead, but now I live. I was blind, but now I see. I was old, but now I'm young. So let the days grow long, for I will not rest until the Humans come back once again."

ooc: Text here

ic: My eyes rest without emotion on my sister, who would actually be my little sister by ten minutes. Our Humans thought of us as a strange bunch of twins, but I think otherwise. Mom raised me as a stray, while she raised lil sis as a home-girl. When the Humans disappeared--well, more like died-out like the monsters they are--she put it in her head that she was going to search the world for survivors.
Me, being still a stray at the time, didn't know but neither cared. But hey, there was adventure in it, so that was how the stupid wench tricked me into being tied down to these fools. Obviously they have no idea what they're facing ahead.
I can't help but stare at that pup, Zeus. I know my myths, but this mutt surely doesn't fit it. He's more like a Hermes to me, being a trickster at heart and a "so-called fighter". But hey, my sis allowed 'em to stay, so I kept my mouth shut. I jerk my head to indicate my answer. "Nothing," I say in my normal growl-like tone. "Might as well head on. There's a town up ahead, and if we hurry, we should get there by dawn."

[/fancypost]

• Eh, I'll. give it a shot,

Ic: I sigh in relief. It looks like all of those rotten zombies are gone. And so they should be, I don't even know why they exist. Shaking my head, the fur on my ears make a soft swishing sound as I walk over to the edge of the clearing. I inhale deeply, collecting all of the scent. There are a lot, but I'm looking for prey. I feel myself smile as I scent squirrel. Turning to Josey, my respected leader. "I'm going to catch something", I bark, before trotting off. "I'll be carful", I barked, looking over my shoulder as I continue into the forest. The soft crunching of leaves under my paws, it feels and sounds nice. I miss the old days, though, when I had this feeling everywhere, and felt safe. Now, I know I must always be careful, no matter where I am.

ic: I nod. "Alright," I say. "Meet us by the borderline of the town, we'll wait for you there. C'mon, guys, let's go. And this time, Zeus, please don't act like this is some kind of smorgasbord of fighting. These were poor dogs once, and it's not a good thing to kill them freely."

I nodded briefly. Washington D.C? It might be a bit far, but nothing we couldn't handle. Nodding a slight goodbye to Alendra, I followed on heavy paws after Josie, stifling a yawn as sleep tried to contradict my mind. How long do you think it will take to get there?" I asked, fighting against the sleep as I started a conversation. Not a good one, but it was one for sure. Hopefully.

I let my black-dark gaze land on Robyn as I felt his stare burn into my sand-colored pelt, now covered in green-ish nasty blood, his stare caused my fur to prickle. "What are you looking at?" I barked, my strong attitude kicking in when it was not supposed to, causing my tone to be snappy. I shut my mouth quickly, but sighed inwardly. The words were out already. Of course it wasn't as bad previous trouble I've gotten myself into. I whipped my head toward Josie, about to use one of my smart remarks, when I remembered I needed to respect her. Dropping my large ears and fluffy tail, I sighed. "Fine..." I grumbled reluctantly, not wanting to give up killing these zombies.

ic: I shrug, and don't even bother with a lie. "With rest? Perhaps a few weeks, maybe quicker if we go without rest, but I'm pretty sure only Robyn would be able to do that. It frightens me sometimes how he's able to just pop out of nowhere."
I shiver at the memory of that time I saw him watching me struggle to fight that Manticore back in the Bronx a few days ago, and then disappear then reappear when I was an inch from killing it, only to stop me and let it slink away free. I know he doesn't like the fact that I want to save the Humans, but just because our owners treated him like that doesn't mean everyone else will. Ever heard of let life and let go?

ic: I stare at the ignorant runt with blazing eyes, but stop once my sis speaks to him. How I hate her and her ever-lovin' pack, but she's the last of the family I have. I would never want to do anything I want to regret, though I did wish that Manticore had killed her so I wouldn't have.
I take a step forward to follow but as I pass Zeus I bend down and mutter without moving my lips, "Nice moves, runt. But I suggest you stay outta my way, lest you end up their next meal." I don't care if the idiot says something, the fool has no idea what he's getting himself into. If I was Josie, I would skin his hide and use him as bait for those damn Zombies. Least we would be safer!

I watched Robyn, keeping my maw shut. I knew he hated me, and that just made me hate him that much more. That's what made him the target of my pranks, and my strong attitude. I rolled my eyes as he walked ahead, and let myself drag along behind. Sighing, I stared at the hard concrete, lost in deep thought. Yes, I was a trouble-maker. Yes, I had a strong attitude. Yes, I lied, stole, did things I may regret. But it's all because I'm misunderstood.

Yes, misunderstood.

I just wish somebody would realize it, and help me... I only caused trouble to get attention. If I didn't, I would be forgotten. If I don't speak up, nobody will hear me and they'll trek all over me. Nobody understands, and it's hard. I just want to be noticed. Spoken to. Causing hell gets me noticed, maybe in a bad way, but that's better than being forgotten and ignored, right?

- Just pretend Sierra nodded and said k or somethin xD

Robyn, Protector of Beasts of Burden

ooc: XD Okay!

ic: As we approached the end of the small town, I winced at the sight of a Human's carcass, its throat ripped out and limbs twisted in all the wrong angles. But the thing that excited me the most wasn't the sight of such a monster getting what it deserved. It was the three Pomeranian having a fiesta with its body, snorting and scoffing and snarling as they gulped it down in large chunks.
"I got this," I said, and moved in for the kill. They didn't even have the time to glance up when one of the dogs' head was separated from its body with a swipe of a paw, the other two quickly being dispatched by two snaps of my jaws. I hated the taste of their slimy blood, but it was one hell of an experience finally killing something just to kill it.
I did see Josie staring at me without any expression on her gaping face, but all I did was spit out the blood and hear my bones crack in place when one of the dogs had tried to pummel me in the hip.

If it's in my sister's heart to bring the Humans back, then it's in mine to watch 'em all die--one by freakin' one.

• "Kay, meetcha' later!", I bark, giving a tail wag of farewell. I sigh, my thin body compulsing as it weaves through the thick trees. This is a good place for hunting. My thin body dodges al of the trees effortlessly, and I feel like laughing, but if I do, I'll probably scare away all the prey for miles. I stop, and look around. I think of gone far enough, the scent of my pack isn't too strong. I reach my long muzzle up into the air, and inhale deeply. My erupted widened, and I felt my mouth begin to water. Rabbit den! Hopefully, some babies as well as parents. It's been so long since I've had a decent meal. I sniff again. No werewolves, or manticores. I can't tell for zombies, because I can still smell the stink from that battle. Rotten decay and flesh. Shaking my head, I do a quick gaze around, my eyes darting around the place, resting on every individual thing. Nothing. I give an inaudible sigh of relief, and begin to track the rabbits. The smell is very tempting, so it's real,y easy to follow. I find myself jogging down the scent trail, weaving expertly around the trees, and have to slow my running body down. If I continue like this, the rabbits will hear my before they can even smell me! As I near the scent, I spot a tiny hole in the roots of a pine tree. A lopsided smile spreads across my narrow muzzle, and a crouch down, reviewing my hunting plan in my mind.

"Josie, Leader of the Beasts of Burden"

ooc: Text here

ic: I stopped at the parking lot of an abandoned hotel, cars tossed around and streamed along as if a Werewolf and Manticore had a kid and let it loose in the city. I jumped on top of a silver SUV, the remains of its terrified occupants still inside, while my brother took it upon himself to sulk around with the blood of the Pomeranians still across him.
The eerie sight of him just made me wish that I had never found him halfway dead in that gutter, a mixture of mud and his own blood around his convulsing body. I still wish I had done nothing for him, though I can't think of such things. It's not right, wishing for his own death, me being his own sister and his only kin.
Well, we still don't know what happened to Mom and Dad. I still think they've been changed to those accursed Zombies or were their first meals, but I don't know. Maybe...Maybe not... But I have a pack to take care of. The horrible memory of what happened to the others came forth like a gargantuan wave in a hurricane...
No! I thought. I must not think about it. Besides, it wasn't my fault! It was Robyn's...it had to be his...
"I was dead, but now I live. I was blind, but now I see. I was old, but now I'm young. So let the days grow long, for I will not rest until the Humans come back once again."

[/fancypost]

• Sniff the air closely, to make sure the rabbits are there at the moment, hopefully unaware of my presence. Good. They still are. Okay, jump on the roots, and wait for them to run. Get them when they run out, and then search for babies, I review, my plan seems pretty reasonable. I crouch down, my thin tail waving back and forth like a cats, and my muscles are bulging, ready to spring. Three, two, I think, my mouth watering. My body is crouched low in a hunting position, my paws yearning to spring into action. One, go! I lunge from the ground, onto the large roots of the pine tree, and start thumping around, as I whip around and face the same directions as the entrance is facing. Luckily, the tree is massive, and the pine branches are very high up, so I have lots of room. I perk my large ears as I hear noises, my body tense and reay, the urge for food doubling my hunting skills. I wait, and just as I see a streak of brown erupt from the den, I plunge Dow, giving a strike to the back. I feel it sping from control, and dart after it, grabbing its neck. I fumble around until I find its jugular cord, and neatly cut it with my long, sharp fangs. I felt the rabbit fridge, then go limp, and I place it on the ground. Turning, I look back into the de, padding closer. Score! There are three baby rabbits in there. With a curved paw, and scoop them out. One, the largest one, tries to run, but I grab its neck. I pin it, one paw on its head, which I am grinding into the ground, and the other one its chest, just below its body. I give a neat, strong movement, and here a faint snap. I turn to the others. Grabbing one, I wait for it to struggle, but it's motionless. It died of fear, I guess. The next one, I turn to, and do the same as I did to the first one. Snap! All done. I smile, but it quickly disappears. Something is wrong...

ic: I hear it before I could see it. Paw steps...and heavy ones, at that. Labored breathing as if that from a Human on oxygen, followed by a piercing roar of rage that split the graying sky like lightening. As if on cue, thunder ripped through the Heavens and out poured millions upon millions of droplets of rain, starting first a small sprinkle then quickly turning into a downpour. Josie, with her lame tail, is hiding inside her SUV with her small "family" of the damned, leaving us out here to deal with the problem.
And problem, it was.
The two male Manticores hadn't turned the corner before their large, scarred, pink noses twitched slightly. Thank goodness they weren't as well trackers as they were killers, and the rain concealed at least some of our scent. Nodding to the cars, I whispered to the others, "Don't make sudden movements, but get either inside, behind, or underneath the cars."
The thought of the Huntress out there alone did make me uneasy, but, hey, she knew the risk yet chose following my dumb sis. If I were her, I would take this opportunity and get out while I still could. I dove underneath a crimson Toyota Camri and stayed there, tail curled underneath me in case the those things came and trampled over it.
Then I saw it. Lightening. A flash of white fire. The only thing that would either give us some direction and distraction from the Manticores, or revealment and sheer death.

If it's in my sister's heart to bring the Humans back, then it's in mine to watch 'em all die--one by freakin' one.
(Red)[/fancypost]

• I shake my head, the furs on my ears swishing. "It's nothing", I bark to myself. But then I hear it. An ear splitting roar, braking the beautiful silence of the forest. I can't help but scream out in surprise. "Manticores!", I cry out. It was too late. Everyone knew Manticores had enhanced hearing. I feel fear pulse inside my thin body, and I look around nervously. I am about to run, but then I remember my pack. Dropping my catch, I sprint off, weaving through the tall trees. The roaring Is getting closer. I'm not sure if I'm nearing them, or they are nearing my. I see it, the eit to the forest, and moving things. They are not sure whether to get me or my pack. Either way, I have to help them. I keep going, breaking out of the forest. One of the sees me and approaches. I feel my stomach drop, and my blood freezes. Man eaters, the nickname of a manticore, it enrages me. I push away have of the fear, and bare my teeth, growling. If I die, I will die fighting. I narrow my eyes, and lower my head, growling loudly,

ic: I see a flicker of movement and brace myself for another of those things to show, but my blood freezes when I realize that it's Alendra. What the hell is she doing? I think angrily, but I know not to move. If she has any sense in her, she would do the same, and get out from the open and--
But no, one already sees her. Damn! Gathering up all my strength, I leap out and gallop towards them, throwing all kinds of words at her and those stinking cats. "Hey! Over here!" I bark to the other, and notice specks of grey hair in its long brown mane. It rolls its lazy yellow eyes my way, and doesn't rush towards me. More like...taking its time to make sure there aren't any others. But how I loathe it when it finally picks up speed, then with a bloodcurdling roar, lunges forward, and I close my eyes when it connects into me.

If it's in my sister's heart to bring the Humans back, then it's in mine to watch 'em all die--one by freakin' one.

• I look over at some shouting, and see Robyn. I didn't thik he was selfless enough to do that, but I guess I am wrong. I see it roll its eyes over and start to slowly approach him. "What the-", I am cut off, my blood freezing as it jumps into action, bulging into him. And gasp, before I come back to sense. "Robyn!", I yell, running after the large beast. I jump on its back, sinking my sharps fangs into its shoulder. As I pull back, I hear a faint squeak in its joints. It must be an old one. A start to growl, sinking in my fangs deeper as it rampages, trying to throw me off, but I keep a firm grip. My jaws seem to loose, and I release only for a second, to bite down on the back of its neck. I tree to get deep, tying to reachits bone, but it must be a lazy one, because there are rolls of fat getting in the way of my teeth and its spine. I feel it start to stop running around, though I keep my grip. Bad idea. I feel my world start to turn. No, it's just turning. Pain seers through my thin Limbs as its massive body crushes me, and my body left, broken on the ground.

ic: I feel the monster's jaws connect with my throat, the glint of yellowed teeth flashing across my vision as lightening struck once again, and I get ready for the inevitable when I feel it turning.
No, not turning. Fighting!
I opened one eye long enough to see the faint outline of Alendra on top of the dastardly thing, and I'm ready to yell at her when I remember the other one. But where... Suddenly, Josie comes into view, but not as a Doberman. A female Manticore launches itself at the other male, which I guess by its bright red mane was young, and they both tussle and snap at its others limbs as they fought.

"What are you doing?" it snarls, lips curling in rage as it began to circle me. "You're supposed to be one of us, not these scrawny things! Go back to the others where you belong!"
"Let me tell you something about 'us scrawny things'." I whip around and stab my scorpion tail deep into his shoulder, which in turn makes him roar right in my ear, which also in turn nearly makes my eardrums explode. "No one talks about my pack!" I yell, and launch myself forwards. I see myself reflecting in his golden eyes even when I did slice my claws down his thick throat, scarlet blood bubbling forth and splattering onto my tan pelt and cascading down toward the storm drains.
