    TheVerdance Festival was here.
Bowers of fragrant cherry blossoms gave shade to the soft dirt paths that meandered throught the young forest. Dew drops bejewelled spider webs with silver and deepened the green of the grass. Only a few of the forest dwelling folk were about, but that was how the verdance began. Just the birds and bugs and plants. Then the beasts, then, slowly, the people.

Cool water ran over the mossy stones of the spring bed and onto Ava's giggling face, as the young human knelt over the narrow brook, her stout legs straddling both muddy banks. She blew bubbles, or tried to, but the playful current took her bubbles and blew them back into her mouth, along with more water.
The child blew an obstinate raspberry and turned her back on the brook, climbing up a large rock to sit on the sunny tussock at it's peak. She had laid a slew of violets, buttercups, and other colorful flowers out to sunbathe, and now set to work artfully staining her white linen skirt with the blooms. She paused with a few snowdrops in her hand, frowning as she realized the futility of using their white petals. So she thought hard a moment, then grinned, sprinkling them in her hair, her light blonde curls be-spotted like a fawns back in the spring. She worked in deep concentration from that point, selecting the best flowers and making a polka dot pattern, when a large brown hand clasped her shoulder, and another tweaked her ear. She looked up indignantly at the friendly face looming above her, framed by a tangle of white blonde hair.
She tried to scramble away, her futile attempts brought to a halt as her big brother caught her up in his thick, muscular arms.
He grinned, tousling her hair as she struggled in vain. She pouted, crossing her arms over her chest as she whined, "I'm bussssyyyy!" He nodded. "I know, but today is special, Avvie girl!" He said laughingly. "It's the first day of Verdance! I need your help, we need to go start up the kitchen before everyone else wakes up!" He looked at her pleadingly, with big, bright brown eyes. The toddler harrumphed. "Fine. I'll help." She granted.
Her brother rolled his eyes goodnaturedly. "Mhm. Come on!" He set her down, and started off, walking backwards through the grass, watching Ava. She smiled, clambering down from the stone, scattering the abandoned flower petals in the brook before trotting after her sibling.

As they walked happily along, Ava jumped on every rock and log, humming and at times running ahead, her stout little legs taking strides as wide as she could stretch. Her big, teenaged brother raised his eyebrows. "Avvie-girl, what are you doing?" He sounded curious, nothing more.
She stopped running, turned to face him, and sighed heavily and melodramatically, her pudgy foot tapping the earth with obvious exasperation. "I'm a DEER, duh!" She said hotly.
He grinned. "Of course you are, I'm such a dummy!" Ava giggled at his admission. "That's okay!" She said graciously. "You're a nice dummy!" He smiled, trying not to laugh. He took her small, chocolate brown hand in his, and the child and her brother jogged through the flourishing woodland to their tree-housed kitchen, laughing and smiling at each new piece of spring.

  • This is a short story told by a character in a FanFiction I wrote a year back...I hope you all like it.

    The Tale of Ninetales

There once was a young boy. He lived in a small town with his mother. His father had left to become a member of the Elite Four. The boy was always picked on and bullied by the other boys in his town. To get away from them, the boy would always go to this old burned house at the edge of town. It was an old two story house that was damaged badly by a fire long ago. No one dared to enter the house because they though it what dangerous. People would often talk of strange wailing sounds and odd lights that would come from the house. The boy wasn't scared though.
One day, a group of the other boys cornered the boy and began teasing him. They circled him and started to shove him around. The boy barge through a gap between the boys and he took off running down the road, to group of boys chasing him. He knew that if he could make it to the burned house…he might be able to get away.
He had just made it to the front gate when one of the boys caught up to him. The boy was thrown to the ground where the others circled him and began to kick him. All the boy could do was curl into a ball and wait for them to stop. Suddenly, a voice called out.
"THAT'S ENOUGH!" the voice shouted. The boys stopped and tried to find where the voice came from. The door to the house flew open. Inside, a pair of glowing eyes peered back at them. The group halted their attack on the boy to stare at the eyes.
Then, two blue fireballs shot out from the door and circled the young boy. They began to spin wildly around him forming a shield between him and the other boys. They took off running as fast as they could, screaming about ghosts. The boy looked up in enough time to see the fireballs float back inside the house and the eyes turned away.
He got to his feet and stumbled as fast as he could after them. All he could see was the two fireballs. They floated across the room and up the stairs. The boy followed them. He slowly climbed the stairs, growing more and more nervous with each creaking and cracking step.
They turned and floated down the hall and into a room. The boy followed them cautiously. He peeked into the room but didn't see anything. So he slowly entered the room looking for any sign of the fire. He was met by a voice.
"Why are you here?" the voice called. It was as if someone was talking in his head.
"I came to thank you." The boy replied.
"You just did…now leave here at once." The voice demanded.
"Before I go, can I at least see the one who saved me?"
"Are you not afraid of this place? Of me?"
    "No."
A pair of eyes flashed in front of an old fireplace. Blue fireballs began to spark up around the room. In their dim light, the boy could make out a figure that lay curled up on a rug in front of the fireplace. The figure stirred and slowly stood to its feet. In then approached the boy. As it entered the light, he gasped. Standing there was a Ninetales.
It was the most beautiful thing the boy had ever seen. The Ninetales stood tall and proud, is fur shimmering in the light of the fireballs that floated around the room. Its eyes were a deep brown color. They held the air of someone powerful and great, yet also sadness and grief.
"Why did you save me?" the boy asked.
"Because…you remind me of my old master."
    "What happened to your master?"
"Many years ago…there was a fire that ravaged this house. My master perished in the fire trying to save me."
"I am sorry to hear that…" The Ninetales looked away. "Why are you still here?"
"We Ninetales are proud and loyal Pokémon." It replied turning back to him. "We honor our masters with great passion. We would gladly give our lives in order to save our masters."
"Your master must have taken great care of you if you would stay here even though he is long gone."
"He did. I still remember the days when I was just a Vulpix. My master spent his time making sure I was happy. He would spend hours brushing my fur, even though it wasn't me wanting to look good that made me happy. It was the fact that my master would spend so much time to make sure that I was happy."
"Well, why don't you come with me?"
    "What do you mean?"
"Well for starts, you said that I reminded you of your master. And I would also do whatever it takes to assure that you are happy and well taken care of."
"Why would you do that for me?"
"Look at it this way…is it really worth it to stay here, alone, to mourn your master when you can be happy if you came with me." The boy suddenly looked terrified. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that." The Ninetales laughed.
"Ohh…how you so remind me of him." The Ninetales had never felt happiness in so long. Before it could answer, there was a sudden glow. The translucent image of a man appeared. Ninetales jumped to its feet. "MASTER! YOU'VE CAME BACK!" The ghost smiled.
"Yes…my faith full friend. I have returned." Before Ninetales could so much as move towards the apparition of its fallen master, the ghostly figure spoke again. "I have returned to tell you to go…go with this boy and live out your life."
    "But…Master…"
"Ninetales…You know that I only want you to be happy."
    "I know."
"So I want you to stop mourning me. It is time to move on. If you linger here, you will only be filled with hollow memories of what once was, and you will never be happy."
    "Master…"
"My friend…I want you to go with him, not to see you go, but to see you be happy once again."
    "If you wish, Master."
"Then go my friend…it is time to let the past go…time to move on and make new memories."
The figure departed in a flash of light. There was a light tinkling noise as an object fell to the floor where the figure once stood. It was a soothe bell. The boy picked it up and took a shoelace from his shoe and made it into a necklace. He slipped over Ninetales's neck. Ninetales looked up at its new master and licked him on the cheek. The boy wrapped his arms around Ninetales, embracing it in a warm hug. From that point on…both Ninetales and the boy became the best of friends and were happy together for the rest of their lives.

  • Well, that was just a short story I wrote like a year ago. Didn't want to post any of my newer works.

  • (Hi people! Hope it's not too late for me to join in.)

[And this is a short excerpt from a book I'm writing, so if you see it somewhere else, you know why.]

    [move]Prologue[/move]

Fear. Pounding, rocking, fear. It was all she felt, yet less than what she felt, as if a black cloud filled her head and drowned her dignity with it's pouring torrents.

No one had ever forged fear in the mind of Tyia Ashen. Even if they had, they probably wouldn't live to tell about it.

How ironic that her father was the one to instill this feeling in her brain.

    [move]Chapter The First[/move]

"No one is taking her away! Our daughter is not a witch, and never has been!"

Aeia looked down at her parents, who were confronting the mob of farmers that stood outside their door. It was 1722, and Aeia's birthday; but it was turning out to be the worst day of her life.

"That girl is a demon, she is!" Cried their former neighbor, his Irish accent emphasizing his fith word. "And you ought to hand 'er over!"

The crowd of villagers pushed and strained to get closer to the door, their rusted weapons raised in the air.

"And this is her thirteenth year!" Another shouted. "A bad omen!"

Aeia felt a tear run down the side of her face. She knew what was going to happen now, however much she wished she didn't. The girl slid off her bed, jumping into her shoes. She ran towards the back door, her tears streaming down now. Aeia twisted the knob, running out into the night.

And she had every intention to go and help her parents, to hand herself over to the mob.

But she heard the screams, and knew she was too late.

Her parents had told her to run away, to hide in the woods, and that's what she did. But not before she made a decision.

If you want me, She thought, her tears turning to ice. You can try and get me.

Aeia took off towards the river, calming herself to add strength to her power. She would need to have a source of water nearby; she hadn't gotten good enough to create large amounts of ice by herself.

The water soothed her, the soft ripples sending a pounding beat through her body. She gathered the waves into a sphere, and solidified it.

The villagers stared, open mouthed at this display. They quickly recovered however, and advanced on the seemingly harmless girl standing in the river, while a hurricane began to pour it's wrath upon the forest.

(I'll continue soon, I just want to know what you think first.)

  • Pastel Colours : So are you writing the story now?
GhostTalon : I like it but since i've never read the Lord of the Rings books I just want to Make sure that you just made this up not taken it from the book
Elemental Trance : So wait this is from another book not your own?

  • Don't know yet but I'll say in the end of May of begining of June because I'm going to be gone so it might be before or after

  • ooc: Ya, it's based on the book but this is my rewrite of part of it.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=#000000 bordercolor=#000000 borderwidth=1px; background-image: url(https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic…vDCv4PC-09f3LSO6k4vBcgdSV); background-position: center; -moz-border-radius: 1em; -webkit-border-radius: 1em; width: 400px; height: 175px; border: 1px solid #444444;][/fancypost] [font=georgia][size=36pt]黒執事 [/size]

    OOC:
I can confirm for Ghosttalon, I'vve read Lord of the Rings multiple times, this is indeed original, except, of course, for characters such as Elrond and Legolas. It is very good, too!
