  • Beginning to shiver with fear, she stepped farther away from the den. "W-What's g-going to h-happen... W-Why did Moreta c-choose th-this night o-over any oth-other..." Dance questioned, though her questions weren't actually aimed at anyone.

  • "Moon." End rasped, beckoning her over with his tail. "It was an omen. The Twolegs!" His voice rose into a yowl, and he started shaking again, resting his head in the nest.

  • Moon padded over. "It's not like he has a lot of strength right now, Stone," she said reprimandingly. "What about the twolegs?" She asked the Songweaver, "do you know any more?" Her tone was gentle, but urgent.

  • "It doesn't take that much strength to speak. We should all know. Rat talks in his sleep all the time." Stone said, shrugging. He had much more to say, but he decided it would be wiser to keep his mouth shut and allow End to explain his whatchamacalit.

  • "It's tired him out both physically and mentally," Moon said, "and that can make speaking difficult." She sat down and looked at moon, making it onvious that this conversation was over.

  • Stone rolled his eye again. He was about to say, He's 'Mentally tired' all the time, and he still speaks, but decided that it wouldn't be very wise.

  • "S-Sometimes it d-does take an e-effort t-to speak, S-Stone..." Dance whispered in his ear, "A-And I a-assure y-you that I am n-not t-tired at a-all..." She flicked her tail in obvious annoyance at his insensitivity and sat next to Moon.

  • Stone sighed. "Sorry....." He was a young cat, and sometimes opened his big mouth before thinking about what was about to come out.

  • End stood, shaken and stiffly walked over to where stone was standing. All signs of his once calm, gentleness was now gone. "I don't think you understand how a profit works, or how signs are interpreted." he hissed into Stone's face. "Unless you can tell us exactly what Mortela said, I think you should learn to put a mouse in it. I don't know what happened to respect to elders, but you certainly didn't get the message. I kitted you, for Mortela's sake, and this is the kind of repect I get for it?" His whole pelt was bristled now, he looked twice his size.

  • Pinning her ears back at End's anger, Dance was silenced. This is why she was scared to speak to other cats, she hated them angry. She looked down at her paws and bristled slightly.

  • Moon placed her tail gently on Dance's shoulder comfortingly. "It's alright," she said, "he won't be mad long. He's just tired, that's all."

  • Glancing at Moon with gratitude in her eyes, Dance calmed a bit and smoothed her fur back. "M-May I ask th-that y-you ignore S-Stone and explain y-your p-prophecy?" she asked End, her voice nearly a whisper.

  • End snorted, thrashing his tail. He turned around, his fur lying flat. "I apologize for losing my temper." he whispered, his eyes fearful and timid. "I-I... She um..." He sank lower to the ground. "I'm sorry if I frightened you Dance." His tail curled close around his legs. "She told me that twolegs would come here and begin to drive away the prey, and capturing us.

  • "Then I guess that we have only one choice," Moon said. "We must leave, at least temporarily. We're surrounded by forest, surely there's a place to hide there."

  • "L-leave the camp?" End whispered, his eyes growing wide. He had lived there his whole life, which was longer then most cats.

  • He padded past her and ran his paw over the smooth floor, his tail drooping.

  • "It's not goodbye to this place forever, End," Moon said gently. "Just for a moon or two, until the twolegs are gone. Please try to understand. Besides, Moreta will still be watching over us, and I believe that she will see that you get back. That we all get back."
