  • It happened one day, the lights went off all around the world. It was an anomaly. Lights go off and the parents disappear. I decide what to do. I get a car, grab my friends, my friends grab cars, and we steal food from stores. Food, medicine, guns, cloths. Lots of all of them. But our hearts were soft and we grabbed the kids, the babies. Baby food, cloths, car seats, cribs. Then we head up to my uncle's neighborhood on the mountain. We find a large, empty house and unload the kids, babies and stuff. I make several more trips up and down. Till we had beds, toilet paper, pillows, huge gallons of water(for later) and anything we could get our hands on. We cleared out several stores before others shot them up and trashed stuff. We were organized, given jobs and I was elected to the leader and collecter/gatherer to go up and down to get food. Others have moved up here too. While the city resolved into gangs we stayed safe because of the gaunt wall I built up. Oh, yes. I forgot to explain. We all were gifted with powers. No two exactly the same. Now seven years have passed and things are changing.

  • Form:
    Name: Vale Park
    Age(nothing under 7) 17
Group(with Tyla(my character) or another leader: I'm the leader of a small trio. We survive together. Its just me and my best friend Sam and my sister Janet. We survive together. Day by day.
History: I was ten when everything went to Hell. I was ten playing with my eight year old sister and nine year old best friend. We were in the garage. Janet went into the house to get a snack. Then she screamed. That was the beginning of it all. We lived in my neighborhood until I was twelve. We were the only kids on the block. Everyone else was gone. We lived in a neighborhood where everyone was either retired or elderly. We went from house to house, scavenging things from various homes. Until it was gone. And we left. And we've been traveling ever since.
Personality: He is a very hard and cold person to strangers. Sam thinks that was influenced by the powers he developed. But maybe it just came from caring for his best friend and sister for seven years. He's practical and careful at all times and has a fiery temper but usually resorts to sarcasm in lieu of physical violence. He's extremely protective of Janet and Sam and will give anything to help them, even his own life.
    Power: Ice, weather
Other: He carries a tactical knife and a hardwood staff he stole from his neighbor's house.
Job(if in Tyla's group): Not in Tyla's group

    Form:
    Name: Sam Wright
    Age(nothing under 7) 16
Group(with Tyla(my character) or another leader: Vale's best friend
History: When I was nine, all the lights went out. All the parents disappeared. It was like... 'poof!' My natural instinct was to follow Vale. He was my best friend. And the oldest. He always knew what to do. He always had a plan. So here's how things work, Vale comes up with a plan, I carry it out, Janet usually ruins it and Vale has to improvise. Good thing he's good at that or we would have been dead by now.
Personality: While Vale is all brains and stealth and swiftness, hiding from the shadows and ambushing from the dark, I'm the muscle the one who attacks head on. That's me. Head on. I do what I'm told and I do it right. We scrape by. We survive. But Vale's always dour. I'm constantly trying to cheer him up. He calls me an 'infuriating optimist'. Not sure what that is. He's the nerd. But at least I know how to laugh. I'm the only person who knows exactly how to make Vale laugh.
Power: I'm pretty strong despite my small frame. Don't underestimate me.
Other: He's a little more naive than Vale.
    Job(if in Tyla's group): In Vale's group

    Form:
    Name: Janet Park
    Age(nothing under 7) 15
Group(with Tyla(my character) or another leader: Vale's my brother
History: I was eight when the poof happened. I was rummaging in the fridge for a snack, smiling because Vale had just put ice down Sam's shirt and made him squirm, my mom was standing by the counter drinking some lemonade when... 'poof!' The lights went out. There was darkness. I turned on a flashlight to see better. "Mom?" I called. There was no answer. She was nowhere in sight. That was when I screamed.
Personality: Vale is the brains. Sam's the brawn. I'm the little hot-headed annoying rascal that always ruins everything. I know it and I'm proud.
    Power: Fire.
Other: She's very well the most dangerous in her group because she uses her powers carelessly and doesn't even try to control them.
    Job(if in Tyla's group): None

  • "Sam!" A bright redheaded girl called in a whisper to the boy sitting on the ground a ways away. "Sam come here!" The boy, presumably Sam, got up with a groan and went to the girl. The two stood side by side and looked down at another figure lying on a patch of grass, using his pack for a pillow. "So. How should we wake him up today?" She asked with a mischievous grin, "You know. In a way that won't make him want to hurt us in any way..." Sam snorted.

"Like this." He reached down and whipped his best friend's pack out from under his head before promptly whacking him with it. Vale let out a startled shout and scrambled to his feet, releasing an icy wind from his hand as he did so.

"Great mother of grapefruits what was that for?" He demanded angrily. Janet and Sam were too busy rolling on the grass, letting out peals of laughter.

  • Tyla had her game face on, or more like her stealing-things- face, she hadn't been down from the mountain in awhile, because of all her little ones basically begging her to stay another day but the food ran down so much she had to leave. She left the car in one of the safe places and, with a gun slung on her shoulder, she went to work. First a new neighborhood she hadn't stolen from before then to one of the more dangerous places in the city.

  • Vale brushed the grass off his dark grey jeans and couldn't resist letting a smile peek through his normally dour attitude. After a moment, he scowled again and picked up his pack. "You find any more ammo last night?" He asked Sam. He had sent Sam out to get some more supplies during the night. Sam was, and would always be, the only one in the group that was adept with a gun. Janet wasn't trustworthy enough and Vale just didn't have the same skill Sam had. So Sam always carried the gun. But that also meant that Sam was in charge of finding ammo for it.
"Yeah." Sam replied, pulling out the pistol and checking the chamber. "I'm full at the moment and I found two more boxes in the Aldersons' old house." The Aldersons were a friend of Sam's family. They had some kids of their own. That was why they were here; to see if they could ally with the Alderson kids. But the problem was finding them alive. They had arrived to an empty house. So the kids were either gone, or dead. Most likely the latter.
"We'll move on today." Vale said. Sam sighed and Vale clapped him on the shoulder. "It's been seven years." He reasoned. "They could be anywhere."

  • Tyla walked by houses peering into the windows cautiously before searching the houses. She saw movement in one and gritted her teeth hoping she wouldn't have to kill them. She was busy watching the house and didn't notice the already toppled-over trash cans until she tripped over them.

  • Vale heard a sharp clang as someone tripped over the trash cans they he knew lay toppled in the front yard of the house. "Sam." He said simply. Sam knew what to do. He pulled out his gun and cocked it to the ready. Vale took his staff from where it was leaning against the wall and Janet made a fireball appear in her hand. She kept that hand behind her back. Sam went out the front door first, hos gun aimed at the person on the ground. "Hands in the air!" He called, "Three against one puts the odds severely against you."
"You don't say." Vale muttered to Sam out of the corner of his mouth. He stood just behind Sam and Janet stood just behind him. This was so no one could make Sam drop his gun by threatening him or Janet. And it also helped that Sam was the tallest.

  • Tyla cursed putting her hands in the air a scowl on her face.
" So whatcha going to do? Shoot? I don't have anything on me, their isn't any food in the other houses, your doing, I suppose?" She said thankful that she didn't let any of the kids come with her.

  • "We'd be a little more friendly," Vale said as he stepped next to Sam, "If you'd put that gun on the ground." He nodded to the gun slung across her shoulder. "Do that and we can talk without the threat of making each other's head explode."

  • Sam glanced at Vale, who nodded, and then lowered the gun and stepped back. Vale smiled dryly. "Why don't you just answer a couple questions for us. Maybe, if you're honest, you'll get answers in return and not a bullet through the head." Janet giggled Vale's sarcasm but Sam shot her a venomous look and she fell quiet.

  • Vale shot an icy glare at Tyla, not trusting her at all. Especially when there was a gun nearby and his little sister within shooting distance. "Why don't we step inside." He suggested. He would do anything to get her away from that gun.

  • Sam and Janet followed behind Vale like two insouciant bodyguards. Both of them kept an eye on the girl's every move. Janet stood behind Vale, guarding the back door while Sam went to the front door and stood there casually, his hand touching the gun in his holster lightly. "Now," Vale said seriously. "Let's start with the basics. Who are you, where are you from and why are you here?" He pronounced each word slowly and carefully.

  • " Tyla, else where, stealing food." She glanced at the two gaurding the doors.
" Family?" She asked. The only way she was going to get out is if she killed everyone here.

  • Vale clutched the hilt of the knife hidden in his pocket. "Family of sorts." He replied with equal scarcity. She wouldn't dare try to escape with Sam having a gun would she? And Janet having... Janet. She seemed to be unarmed. If this girl was going to try to escape, she would try breaking the weakest link. Little did she know that Janet was far from weak. Either way, he didn't want any casualties. "We're not planning on harming you." He spoke calmly. "Unless you harm one of us or... at least attempt to."

  • Tyla kept her smile on.
" How about you let me go and neither one of us harm each other? You seem like a good kid, but stupid. First of all you didn't even check for other weapons on my person or see and or ask if I had a way to contact other people. You also made it obvious that there is no one else in the house and that you trust these two completly. All I would have to do is take you or him as a hostage, I'm not even going to go near that girl over there." She looked to Janet. "Looks are very deceiving, but I can tell she's not one to be without defenses. FYI I have two knifes up my sleeves, one gun inside my left boot and extra ammo strapped inside my other boot and I haven't even told you of my powers yet." She spoke calmly while naming each place she had extra weapons, she knew lying would not be the way to get out of this.

  • Vale looked at her calmly. "Calling me stupid isn't going to help your case." He said simply. "And as I said. It is three against one after all. And I haven't told you of our powers yet. Not that I ever will." He said severely. "But you might end up finding out the hard way, however. So why don't we make this quite simple. You make one move towards me or Janet, Sam shoots you. Try to harm Sam, he shoots you. You even reach towards a pocket, he shoots you." He said in a perfect mocking cheerful voice. "Its quite an easy choice to make, really." He shrugged. "Either answer our questions and cooperate with us, or die. And believe me. If you do what you're told, you will be able to leave with no further harm done to you. So why don't we do this; if you don't keep your arms in the air at all times, you find out what my pretty little friend Janet can do with that wicked long knife she has in her belt."
