Shatteredsoul padded out of the warriors' den, her head down and her tail trailing in the dust. The day before, her mate, Grizzlyclaw, had been attacked by a hawk and killed by his wounds. Shatteredsoul would never forget it when two of her clan-mates had carried his lifeless body out of camp. Her ears flattened. They had only been mates for a moon!
