Riann followed him. His life came flashing at her again. She grabbed him against her better judgement and was filled with sudden pain and sorrow. She lost her balance momentarily and then quickly regained it. "Let me help you, please, Josh!"
-
Josh turned on her, "Why the h3ll do you care?" His amusing thoughts of death emptied from his head, leaving a lot of room for the pain to come rushing in. Not like it wasn't there before, but without something to distract him, it was more noticeable. He looked at her hand on his arm, then back up at her. How could she possibly help? All the damage had already been done. It was just a matter of dealing with his sh!tty life now. And he could handle that. He glared at her, daring her to say something stupid and proving his point that she couldn't help him.

"I'm not normal. I'm different, like you! I understand so much more! I could tell you your life right now if I chose to! For once, someones reaching out to you and wants to help you, and you shun them and turn them away? That's just sad." she said firmly. She would get through to him eventually.
-
"Heh," Josh laughed, digging his fingers in his arm to distract himself from the pain in his chest. "And what do you gain from 'helping' me?" He turned away. Most of the 'helpers', the people who really cared, stopped bothering them if he was cold and cross with them. They only cared if he cooperated with their 'helping'. He glared at his useless, probably broken left arm. Josh kept walking.
-
Riann followed him in one last attempt. "Josh, no. You're not going to do me like you've done you're family, you're community, you're comrades, or anyone. I'm not giving up. You're screwed up now! I get it! Hell, r**e isn't the end of the world, it's h3ll yes. Especially when it's someone you were close to. Think about when you were little! So innocent! So full of life! What happened to..." she cut herself off, realizing how much she had said and given away about herself, she turned and looked for somewhere to run.
-
Josh turned around sharply. On the news, his name was kept anonymous, for safety, the cops had said. The bast@rds hadn't cared about his safety. It was just easier. He was thinking someone had paid for them to do the story that way. But however it was done, no one really knew it was him who was r@ped. So how did she...? And why was this girl sprouting all this sh!t about when he was little? "What do you mean by that? What happened to what?" He glared at her, trying to give her knowing a good excuse. The little gears were turning in his head, but he couldn't find a reasonable explanation for it. He saw her looking around, recognizing the way her eyes swept from side to side. It was the actions of an animal of prey trapped in a corner by something big... In this case, a big secret that Josh couldn't figure out. He grabbed her arm, holding her in place so she'd answer his questions.
-
She looked around, looking for somewhere to run. She felt his hand grasp hers. She was stuck, no other way out. She had to either tell the truth or roll with it and act dumb. She chose the first option. "Fine! I'll answer your questions, but we have to go to like an empty classroom. I'll only answer to an extent though!"
-
Josh smiled slightly in triumph, knowing it wouldn't reach his eyes. "Good." He checked to see where they were in the school, then ducked into a seldom-used janitor's closet, pulling Riann along with him. It was nearly pitch-black in the tight space, but it was a comforting darkness. Not like the shadowy feeling of depression. In all his musings, Josh realized the dark probably wasn't as comfortable for the girl in front him. With eyes fully adjusted to the dark, he reached up and pulled the old-fashioned chain to the light. It came on blindingly bright, and Josh blinked spots from his eyes. He leaned against the wall, really casual, staring at Riann. This was as far away from her as he could get in the cramped supply closet, but he wished there was a greater distance. There was just something too intimate about being this close to someone in a small place, closed off from the world... D@mn thoughts, Josh halted them, unconsciously clenching a fist. "So," he said, "How do you know all this sh!t?"
-
"Well, first off, turn the light off and quit worrying about my comfort. I'm not going to do anything and neither are you as far as I know. Secondly, i just do, elaborate the question and you may get more detail." she smiled softly and looked at him.
-
Josh narrowed his eyes, but he had to admit: She was good. A smile threatened, and he suppressed it. Not intelligent to give in to her, to soften at all. Sighing, he reached up again to turn the light off. Better. With a stony-cold voice, he did as she said, elaborating, "Fine. How'd you know I'd been r@ped? And how is it possible you know so many details of my life?" I've never opened up to anyone, there's no way you could know.
-
"It's all over school. And you're life, well, if you wanted that explanation, I'd have to tell my whole life story." she said quietly, glancing away. She wanted to tell, but she had never spoken of her gift, her curse. It was there. It had been since the accident years ago. What was she supposed to say? How do you explain that you're a freak because of an accident?
-
The whole school knows? Josh winced, realizing that was accurate. It matched with all the gawking stares he got. All the pity and f*cking idiots trying to help him. Come to think of it, how could he have been so oblivious? Maybe he'd been tuning it out, not seeing everything, not really caring. To Riann, out loud, he said, "Well, we've got until 7 a.m. tomorrow. So, shoot." He could see now that this wasn't just some small thing. The untold secret was weighing heavily in the air, like a dark cloud that refuses to give up its rain.
-
She sighed heavily. "You really wanna know don't you?"
