  • Growling at himself and his failures, the male stalked off again to see if he could scent some prey. He found another bird, a ways off, and while he did manage an impressive, rage powered leap, it was no where near good enough and he found himself sinking to the ground. Perhaps if their disagreement hadn't taken place he would've been doing better. But with his anger at himself.. he'd never succeed.

  • ❥ [color=black] As the bird flew in her direction, and the bird happened to be oddly close to the ground, Tundra silently sprang and sank her teeth into the bird's wing. The feathery creature squawked, pecking her thick fur. She growled, bringing it down with her head and giving the killing nip to the bird's neck. Padding lightly up to Maverick, she dropped the bird at his paws. "Looking for this?"

  • Eyes widening with anger, the dog looked back, seeing his missed prey. He stood slowly, deliberately, and was a second away from swiping at the prey angrily, when a shape materialized in his right side peripheral vision. The shape of a human... with... Launching himself forward at Tundra, he let out a growl of a warning. "Human! With a gun!"

  • ❥ [color=black] Tundra took a step back at his anger, "Human? What's tha-" Before she could continue, Maverick had barreled into her and stopped her at her words. A sharp, shiny thing whisked past her ear, grazing a bit of her hair.

  • The dog shook his head, and took Tundra's scruff in his mouth for a brief moment. "Come on, we gotta RUN!" he cried out, but didn't make any move. And he wouldn't, not until he was sure that she was up and able to move too.

  • ❥ [color=black] Tundra rolled onto her paws and fought her instincts to drop into an attack stance. She glared at the human, her eyes hard and her jowls trembling. Drool dribbled down her jaws, revealing sharp canines. She growled, before turning and sprinting.

  • Mav ran after her, taking huge, long strides, and casting his gaze over his shoulder. Unfortunately this meant he didn't see where he was going, and in a moment, a metallic 'SNAP' caught his attention. And then suddenly he was stopped. Some kind of trap was around his back leg. And then came the pain. A searing pain, like someone was sticking a hot knife into him.

  • ❥ [color=black] Tundra slapped her paws deep into the earth, hitting the brakes. She whipped around, not willing to leave Maverick behind. To the human, she sounded only of whining. She nipped at the metal, growling as she couldn't get it to open.

  • The dog had struggled uselessly against the trap for a few moments, before realizing that it would only make his pain worse. "You need to go...!" He gasped at Tundra. "Leave me. I'm not worth it...!" The dog added, in a pleading tone of voice.

  • [align=center][color=black][font=georgia] Tundra shook her head, "I would never leave you. Even at the cost of my own life. I love you, Maverick." She felt her hackles raise as the human approached. She snarled viciously, and without thinking twice, lunged and clamped her jaws onto the gun, jerking it away from the human with her head.

  • He tried to cry out, tried to do something that would convince her to go and leave him, but no, she went after the human. And so the dog could only stand there and listen, waiting for the cry of pain, or whatever he expected was going to come from Tundra soon when the human killed her.

  • [align=center][color=black][font=georgia]"Let. Him. Go!" Tundra yowled, refusing to latch onto the gun no matter how hard the human pushed her or rammed into her. She screwed her eyes shut, clawing whatever she could with her hindpaws. Now that she was in the air, the human flung her aside and she yelped as her back collided with a tree trunk.

  • He heard the sound of a body hitting wood, and groaned. His own hurt was making him feel weak, but he used that, and the sound of a body hitting a tree to power a fiery rage he'd not allowed himself to power for nearly two years. It was the kind of rage he'd had before. The one that'd changed him from a quiet dog, to a powerful, unfeeling, killer. And he forced it on himself tonight.

Letting out a cry of defiance, the male tugged at his trap, doing everything he could to free himself. "I'm coming! Hang on!" He called out, hoping, hoping beyond all hope, that Tundra would still be alive.

  • ♥ Blood pounded in Tundra's ears as she slowly heaved herself up onto her paws. She held herself rigid and still as stone as she heard a click and the gun was pointed right at her. Her instincts told her to run, but her paws were rooted to the ground. The only sound she could hear was the beating of her heart. Is this...the end? Is this how I'm going to die? Without Maverick? Without...a family? A tear rolled down her cheek as she gazed at the human in terror. ...Goodbye. The human slowly pulled the trigger.

  • His anger overwhelmed him, and with no way to get free other than perhaps mutilating himself permanently, that was what he was going to do. Maverick tore his leg free - in a literal sense. Leaving behind chunks of fur and flesh, exposing a raw, nauseating wound of flesh and bone where his fur should've been.

He knew he would, most likely, end up losing the leg. But he had only one shot at this. One shot to save Tundra. Letting out a yowl of anger, pain, and absolute defiance, the dog launched himself at his target. In a moment of rare accuracy he managed to hit it, sinking his teeth into his would-be killers arm, the momentum of his impact bowling both of them over. "Tundra... kill..." Was all he could manage, as he struggled to keep his grip and prevent the man from reaching a weapon.

  • ♥ Tundra squeezed her eyes shut as soon as the human pointed his gun at her. A loud gunshot was heard, and a pack of birds flew into the sky. But she was still alive. Opening one eye, she gasped for air. Then, she realized it was Maverick that prevented her from her death. But there was a downfall; he lost a leg and she was the one to give the death kill. A dark voice echoed in her mind. Kill, pack, kill. Tundra shook her head, frightened. The voice sounded familiar. Kill, pack, kill. It repeated.

  • His leg was rapidly bleeding out, and he was losing energy fast. "Tundra... do something." he growled, as a fist hit him in the head, stunning him. "Knock him out... something.." He pleaded. He wasn't ready to die.

  • ♥ "No," Tundra growled to the voice in her head. "Killing isn't necessary." With a yowl, she lunged forward and slammed her paw against the human's head, knocking him to unconsciousness. She panted tiredly, sagging her shoulders.

  • He nodded tiredly once the female did it, and pulled himself off of the human. His leg was.... well, not good. It was the first time he'd bothered to look at it. And it wasn't pretty. It was like,,, someone had torn the fur off of it. An exposed things that weren't supposed to be exposed. So he crawled a few paces away and then stopped, pulling the leg up into his body and facing away from Tundra. "You better.. just leave me."

  • [align=center]♥ Tundra gathered up her thoughts once more, re-imagining everything that happened. She padded softly up to Maverick, shaking her head, "It doesn't matter if your image isn't pretty. I'm concerned for you." She asked permission to take a look at his wound.
