  • "I'm not leaving you." Steelblade said firmly.

  • Mist looked at her collar, the bell tingling.
''I don't need this anymore.'' As Mist ripped the collar away, she felt that twinge of loss. But she knew it had to be done.

  • Steelblade flicked his tail for her to follow him as he padded towards the fence.

  • "Climb on my back, I'll carry you over if I have to." Steelblade said, turning to Misty.

  • Steelblade watched. "Careful." he said.

  • Steelblade shuffled his paws. 'I...er...I could carry you." he said.

  • "If I take running start I could jump over and help you up. Or I could hoist you onto my back and over." Steelblade said.

  • Steelblade nodded and pricked his ears as he heard twoleg yelling. "COme on, we don't have much time." he said, racing towards the fence.

  • Mist climbed onto his back lightly, trying to support her own body weight so that Steelblade wouldn't have to feel more weight to carry.

  • "One...two...THREE!" Steelblade yowled, racing over and beginning to climb onto the fence as an adult twoleg burst out of the door.

  • Mist mewed, ''Go go go their coming!!!'' Mist suddenly felt herself fall down the other side of the fence and looked out.
    A bird called.
    Freedom.

  • Steelblade slid her off his back as the twoleg threw a metal thing at him with a clang. He yowled and leaped down the fence. "Come on!" he yowled, racing into the woods.

  • Mist ran, feeling pure wind blow through her fur and the feel of earth beneath her paws. She looked like a mystical warrior on the run.

  • Eventually, the twoleg yowling faded away. Steelblade skidded to a stop in a clearing. "Are you ok?" he asked her, padding over to her.
