Steelblade nodded after a moment and sat down. "I was born into Shadeclan. My mother died at birth and my father ignored us. I was the last of the litter after my sister died of greencough. My father ignored me even when I became an apprentice. Since I was born into a bad family, I was picked on a lot by two apprentices named Roarpaw and Thornpaw. When we became warriors our leader was murdered. I had heard Howlstar's screech and raced to the scene only to find him dead. Then my father, or the deputy, came out with Roarpaw and Thornpaw, now Roarclaw and Thornpelt. They accused me of murder and I was put on trial by my father, who banished me. Roarclaw and Thornpelt chased me from the territory, giving me wounds as I ran and I ended up here..." he trailed off, looking down.

Mist's eyes were with disbelief. She closed them and stayed quiet. Finally, she opened them.
''We must fight back.'' -
STeelblade shook his head and looked at her sadly. "It's no use Mist. There's scores of warriors. We'll never defeat them." he said.
-
Mist mewed, ''But..a few moons ago I had a dream where I was lashing my paw out at two cats..and I killed them...''
-
Steelblade lowered his eyes. "Maybe it was just a dream..." he said softly.
-
Mist gave up.
''I just don't want you to have a miserable life, Steelblade...I hate it here..and your such a special cat that you don't deserve to be locked up in this twoleg den...'' -
Steelblade smiled sadly. "Then why did you come here?" he asked.
-
''I didn't come here...I was stolen.
-
"From who?" Steelblade asked curiously.
-
''All...all I remember was that..my name was..Mist..Mistki...I don't remember. Anyway, a cat was sorting leaves and then twolegs came and took us.''
-
"Do you ever think of leaving?" Steelblade asked, looking over the fence at the tips of trees.
-
''I tried once, but then the most horrible thing happened to me.''
She held up her paw. She had been de-clawed. -
Steelblade widened his eyes. He narrowed them and bristled. "THese twolegs did that to you?" he growled.
-
Mist nodded. ''That's why I don't want you here. I mean, I love you, but-'' Mist covered her paw on her mouth.
-
Steelblade blushed, looking at her.
-
''I-I meant to say-'' She felt her fur heat up.
-
"I-It's alright...j-just a slip of the tongue, right?" Steelblade stammered, still blushing.
-
''Y-y-I think so..''
But what if Mist did mean those words? She was puzzled at herself. -
Steelblade nodded, then narrowed his eyes again. "You can't stay here. They might try to take other parts of you away!" he said.
-
''I know I can't get out of here...but I know you can. I don't want to see you hurt...you have to go.''
