  • "I think I'm ready," Haven thought of everything she packed into her back, "How many daggers are enough? Cause I have like 5 on me. . ." She considered the thought of over-packing, but whatever, you never know.

  • Carter then later went outside to watched them get ready. "Need help?" He offered to all of them. He smiled at Haven before turning to the others, trying to smile.

  • Scarlet crosses her arms with a frown, though her green eyes showed slight amusement at Nick. "Don't get too bored while I'm gone, if your good I'll bring back a souvenir." Haven's comment about daggers caught Scarlet's attention. "What sizes do you have? Are any of them golden or bronze?" While she spoke, Scarlet brought out her own dagger, latched onto her side.

  • "Carter... Jax isn't coming. Why don't you come with us instead?" Mark suggested with a grin. Holly nodded, and then punched Mark. "That's my job, Death-Kid." she frowned.

  • "Another Nyx kid," Jay observed, though, for once, his tone held very little insult or irritation. As he'd been thinking earlier, he didn't mind most Children of Nyx. Oh, he wasn't exactly going to be polite to them, but he was... Slightly less rude than usual to them.

"I've seen Carter fight, he's good," Nick mumbled, glad he was going with the group. "Umm, I didn't just make something for Jay. I made something for all of you, too," he managed to get out, though he was staring at the floor the whole time. Nick carefully removed five bronze spheres and handed them out to the other Demi-gods. "I only had time to make five, one for each of you. They're... Umm, grenades, basically. If you throw it in the vicinity of any monster, it will explode, sending shards of light everywhere. Doesn't do anything to Demi-gods or mortals, but it shreds monsters. Don't waste them, they're hard to make," Nick advised, stepping back. Part of him wished he was going with them, but a bigger part was relieved he was staying in Camp. He was no coward, but battle... Wasn't exactly his strong suit.

  • "Thanks. I'll kill one for you." Scarlet states, slipping the well-made grenade into her back pack. "I call dibs on Medusa, by the way."

  • Holly smiled, catching the shield easily in her hands. "For that, I know it will be wrong, but come with us." she invited. Mark shot her a glare, but shoulder his shield. He flipped his hair out of his eyes once more.

  • Carter smiled and nodded his head. "A pleasure," He replied, then head back to his cabin to gather some supplies; all he needed is his compass and the charm that shaped of an eye. He returned back to the group, after he gotten them.

  • "Wait a second, did you just suggest that Nick come too? Because if you did, then you're crazy," Jay barked, his eyes darkening. No way was his little brother coming on this Quest. The others here could handle it, but Nick... Well, at the risk of sounding completely lame, Nick was a lover, not a fighter. Unfailingly loyal and infallibly kind, the Son of Hephaestus was not cut out for combat.

  • "Let me remind you Jay," Holly said in a tart tone of voice. "That I am in charge of the quest, and he can come of his own free will. You cannot control him."

  • "Dude. Jerk. Jay, whatever your name is. Cut Nick a break, his your brother and a smart one at that. He could be a great advantage to the team. So shut up." Scarlet's eyes darken at Jay, surprised that the words came easily and meaningfully.

  • "Let Nick be part of the quest," Carter said to Jay, nodding towards Nick. "He's important, should I stressed that, very important." Carter said with a sigh.

  • Jay ground his teeth together, tempted to call up a gale force wind and blow both Holly and Scarlet to their destination. "Nick. Nicky. There's gonna be a lot of blood, and fighting, and battle, and probably a good dollop of death," Jay turned to Nick, his mouth twisting unhappily. That was as close to begging as he would get.

Nick stared, wide-eyed, at Jay, then he glanced at the rest of them. "I..." he muttered, conflicted. On one hand, he would probably never get a chance like this again. On the other... Ah. But you only lived once. Hadn't Jay himself taught Nick that? "If you're okay with me going, then... I guess I'll tag along," he decided, averting his eyes from Jay, pretending he hadn't seen the flash of horror that had come and gone from his older brother's eyes.

"Fine," Jay snapped, looking away from them all. "We should get moving anyway," he muttered, thrusting his hands into his pockets violently. If Holly expected Jay to accept this like a good little boy, she had another thing coming. She was, indeed, in charge of the quest, and thus the safety and well-being of every one of its members was her responsibility. If Nick was hurt, or, Gods forbid, killed...

  • "I take full responsibility, Jay-Jay." Holly used her pet name for him. "Mark, you ready?"

Mark popped his knuckles. "Everyone link arms." he commanded. Holly slipped her arm into his, and her other into Jay's.

  • "Don't get used to this, boy." Scarlet jokes, although her face was stern. She slips her arm into Nick's, keeping the distance appropriate. Come on fun..

  • Jay glared down at his and Holly's linked arms, but he kept his mouth firmly set in a line, refusing to speak. He was going to be absolutely intolerable for the next couple of hours, but that was the least of their worries.

Nick kept his gaze trained on the ground as Scarlet and Jay took his arms. Well. A pissed off Jay, an unusually nice (at least to Nick) Daughter of Ares, a few Children of Nyx, a Daughter of Nike, and a Son of Hades? This was going to be an interesting ride.

  • Shadows surrounded them, coldness enveloped them, and then light pierced the dark. "Chicago? Anyone know how to get around her?" Holly asked, squinting in the light.

  • Scarlet steps forward, a proud glint in her eyes. "I was born in Chicago, ironically. 'Know the best place in town for hot dogs, if we get bored, of course."

  • Oh, yeah baby. Jay's attitude immediately lightened, and though he didn't smile, his eyes brightened and he immediately turned in place, glancing around. "You bet I know my way around. Gotta say, I'm a bit jealous, woulda loved to have been born here," he replied, giving Scarlet a nod of appreciation, almost no trace of irritation in his tone. Chicago was his favorite place in the world, he'd spent a year here back when he was still a loner. He loved this city.

Nick glanced around, noting Jay's sudden happy mood. Of course, a happy mood for Jason was merely a lack of a bad mood, but that was saying something when it came to Nick's older brother.
